Spring skiing is back. Cold nights are helping keep the snow around. Warm afternoons are great for ski fun but not so great for the snow depth.
Blue wax and SPF 30+ until mid-afternoon for skate and classic, changing to red by afternoon. We groomed a skate lane refresh on the 3km Community Loop, the 5km “Pond Loop” and Armstrong last night. We have established classic track on almost all of the 3km and the 5km The tracks are cold and glazed this morning for the start of your ski day. Trail areas will be starting to transform and melt in the afternoon. Ski before late afternoon if at all possible.
Armstrong is packed and OPEN but thin and exposed in a couple areas. Ski with awareness in the corners, whilst crossing cart paths and near the trees as the trails remain thin. There are unmarked hazards here and there and the forecast afternoon heat will start to deteriorate exposed parts of the track. The Farm and Dog Loop ski trails remain closed.
We are OPEN 9-5 today offering lessons, rentals of skis and snowshoes. Come on in to the shop, purchase your trail pass and ski the day! Snow dance rehearsals are nightly at sunset. It will be a lovely sunny day for skiing, bundle up early, peel off layers later and go play on the snow! The bunnies and maybe that young moose will definitely be out enjoying the sunshine today.
Tuesday Haiku:
best time ten til two,
Spring skiing on the menu,
Cold start warm finish
We are in snow saving mode yet again as this week heats up. If the trails start to get significantly soft in the afternoons, please switch to classic skiing. We’ll be shoveling daily to help the keep the trails open.
