Discover the Joy of Nordic Ski Racing with First Tracks

posted in: News | 0

Already cross-country skiing? Curious about trying a race?

First Tracks is a welcoming introduction to the Wasatch Citizens Series, with an informal evening to answer your questions and friendly guidance when you arrive for your first race.

The Wasatch Citizens Series brings together skiers of all ages and abilities for six Nordic races throughout the winter. You’ll find Olympians, juniors, retirees, longtime racers and people crossing their very first finish line. Some are chasing a podium; others want a new challenge or a fun reason to get out on snow.

You can try one race, join a few or ski the whole series. You don’t need racing experience to get started.

Join longtime coaches and racers Jeff Minnema and Julie Davenport for a relaxed evening at Chappell Brewery. Whether you’ve been cross-country skiing for one season or twenty, come learn how community racing works and ask the questions that have kept you from giving it a try.

We’ll talk about choosing your first race, what to expect on race day, equipment and clothing, and how classic and skate races work. We’ll also cover starts, timing, race etiquette and preparing for your first event, with plenty of time for questions and conversation.

A Friendly Welcome on Race Day

Your first race comes with plenty of unknowns. You don’t have to figure them out alone.

At every WCS race this season, First Tracks participants can meet with Jeff and/or Julie 30 minutes before the race starts, next to the registration table. Together, you’ll review the course and race procedures, talk through what to expect at the start and have time for last-minute questions.

To join, select the First Tracks welcome meeting option when registering for your race through the TUNA website. Most races start at 10:00 a.m., but check your event’s registration details for the start time.

Race-day welcome meetings are open to all ages. You’re welcome to participate whether or not you attended the brewery event.

Our goal is simple: when you arrive at the starting line, you’ll feel prepared and welcome.
