White Pine

Carpe Ski-em! We can’t control the weather but the next two days should be quite good. The temperatures are looking a little challenging for the next several days, but we’re making the best lemonade we can by sprinkling fresh grooming on the sour forecast. We are very lightly snowcat grooming the 3k, Armstrong, Dog Loop and Farm this morning. Conditions will be quite good on the 3k and Armstrong with the fresh surface corduroy and shallow classic track. We will update the Farm conditions on our website after the groom. Skiing will be best from about 9:30 and for the rest of the day due to the cold snow. It will be extra spicy and unpleasant on the shortened 5k until midday.
Skating will be good until mid-afternoon today then we strongly recommend changing to classic skiing after 2 pm in order to help protect and maintain the trails and prevent ruts from skating. We are expecting temperatures above freezing again by afternoon. We’ll see blue sky and sunshine all day. Expect spring-like mixed conditions with soft melting surface in the sun and glazed in the shade. Keep your eyes forward and watch where you are going. Prime ski time will be from about 9:30 until 2:30 today as the snow temperature change lags behind the air temperature.

We strongly recommend stopping in the shop BEFORE you head out on the trails when we have these extreme Spring-like conditions. If you head out and assume the conditions, you can be quite surprised. We want you to have a great ski experience every day and we’re doing our best every day to make it happen.

Wax will be blue/violet early then skin skis for kick and violet/red for glide over the day. We’ll see the snow transform quickly today so make sure you’re waxed and have some structure on your bases to release the surface tension. Be aware of icy patches in the parking lot and walkways. Walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs. We can wax or structure your skis and upgrade your gear as needed. No walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. If you need to take a physical and/or mental therapy getaway or a break from the news cycle we’re here for you every day. It will be a great afternoon to drop off your skis for a spa treatment so they’ll be ready for more spring skiing. Put on your sunglasses, touch up your sunscreen, snug those laces and head outside today! Stay hydrated, soak up Joy and sunshine out on the trails, look out for signs of too early spring, ski safe and be kind. Considering swimwear and pond skimming next week if we don’t see some snow coming. Thank you for being part of our amazing community and reading this deeply into this cautiously optimistic trail report. Go for a ski and then drop in the store to say hi and visit for a few minutes. See you on the trails!

We have another Toko Wax Clinic coming up Saturday March 1st at 3:30 at the Nordic Center. $10 cover charge and discounts after the clinic on wax and waxing accessories. We’ll be giving away a pair of Swix poles after the clinic to a lucky attendee. No reservations required.
