White Pine

We passed the Ides of March with a day of winter and snow. We’re looking at St. Patrick’s Day eve being a return to more breezy spring-like conditions by afternoon.
We’ll be grooming yesterday’s snow on the 3km, Practice Loop and Armstrong trails this morning. The Armstrong Loop is skiing quite well and worth taking off your skis to cross the road. Both trails will have classic track where possible and cappuccino foam corduroy early.

Temperatures will be rising with the afternoon sun and we’ll see sticky conditions by mid afternoon. We still have a mixed bag of slush and grassy areas right underneath the new snow, so pay attention. The best skiing will until about 3 today. Classic skiing will be quite good today again. There will be some glaze in the classic tracks due to the high moisture below the surface. We have icy patches, grassy patches, exposed pavement and wet areas under the snow and near the trail so keep your eyes open, stay alert and ski safely. It might be busy so ski to the right and share the trails. Please check in at the Nordic Center for any updates before you ski. The 5k, Dog Loop and Farm are CLOSED.

Wax will be the full rainbow of blue/violet/red/yellow with structure over the day today for kick and glide as temperatures rise. Spreading some good wax on those tips and tails of your equipment will help you glide. Please be aware of any icy or wet patches near the trails, on any pavement and on walkways. Walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs. Please no walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. When you need to take a physical and/or mental therapy getaway or a much needed break from the news we’re here for you. It will be a perfect day to drop off your skis for a hot wax spa treatment to keep you gliding. Sip a steaming mug of Joy, bundle up, be peaceful, venture out on the trails, be safe and be kind.
