Well, the rain yesterday and today have definitely not been helpful. We managed to groom everything, but the snow is quite wet and heavy. Classic is still mostly set on the Upper Loops and was reset on the Lower Loops. Hopefully this rain can turn into snow at some point. Sushi Scale: Soggy Nori

UPDATE:

We have suspended both the Upper and Lower trails for skiing at this time. We had rapid melting yesterday leaving lots of bare areas of grass and cart path. It is currently too dangerous to ski at this time. Hopefully, we can reopen once we receive enough snow.

Thank you for understanding and your patience as we navigate this weird winter season.

Tuesday Haiku:
Drizzle from the sky,
Go out early, back early,
Save the trails day.

It is going to be a warm moist nordic ski day on our ~8km of open trails! Starting out at 37F this morning with a cloudy very light drizzle on the trails. We did not regroom the 3k “Community Loop”, the 5km loop and Armstrong last night to help save the trail surface in the warm temperatures. The crew did not reset the classic track due to snow depth. The classic tracks remain good with a few obvious gaps. The classic may be a bit icy early in places where the sun hit it yesterday but will soften up early. The skate is firm on top but will get very soft through the day. There are a few thin spots out there so ski with awareness and avoid the grassy spots. It’s a purple/red wax day at White Pine Touring.
Skiing might become quite soft by afternoon today so we recommend classic as the choice from mid morning on.
Please stay off the golf course and other trails unless you’re on skis. Help us remind walkers and dog walkers that there are great options nearby like Round Valley, Basin Rec and Willow Creek rather than tracking through the fresh grooming. The Farm Trail and Dog Loop remain CLOSED. Red beanies are recommended and be cautious, it can be icy out on the sidewalks and pathways.
The shop and trails are OPEN 9-5 today offering lessons, trail passes, gear sales, waxing service, rental skis and snowshoes. Drop off your skis for a spa treatment after you wrap up for the day. Join us for classical snow dances, offerings to Ullr today. The snow bunnies may be sheltered indoors with a cup of tea by the end of the day.

Our trail is unskiable. The forecast is for warmer temps and rain. The 10 day forecast is poor and will likely put an end to our one day of grooming season.

Sorry for the late report – computer issues. We have freshly groomed the core snowmaking trails, and blew a lot of snow, which is blocking certain sections, so apologize for that. The natural snow trails we groomed out last week are sadly melting out with many mud patches, and were not groomed again so please use caution if you choose to venture out on those. We will have a Wednesday Night Lights fun race on the 25th . Format will be mass start skate starting around 5 pm with BBQ to follow at 6:15 pm. Come join us!

Nordic Trail Conditions

Payson Nordic

All trails were groomed today. The East side of the golf course probably won’t be able to be used after today and with the warm weather and rain forecast the south side of golf course will probably be unskiable after tomorrow morning. The forebay trail was usable today but with the weather it is doubtful after tomorrow. Higher on the maple lake trail there is good snow and other than the south facing areas of the nebo loop it is good snow past the narrows. There was great snow above the grotto and all the way to pete winward. We’ll see what the weather brings but we are probably done grooming at the golf course and forebay but we will probably groom the maple and pete winward trails next week.
