White Pine

If you look up “wintry mix” and look out the window this morning you see what we have this morning. A wet mix of rain, sleet and snowflakes this morning. It is too warm and wet, so we are not grooming the 3km and Armstrong this morning. They are skiable, but you’ll have to pick your way around a few areas of significant snowmelt from this week’s heat wave. We will have mixed bag of slush and grassy areas today. The best skiing will be tomorrow after it snows some tonight. It is too warm and wet for crust skiing today. Skating is not advised today at all. Please ski classic if you come out to keep from damaging the trail and your skis.
More warm wind is expected late in the day which may make it quite soft before the storm comes in. We have icy patches, grassy patches, exposed pavement and wet areas under the snow and near the trail so keep your eyes open, stay alert and ski safely. Please check in at the Nordic Center for any updates. The magic 8 ball indicated that we’ll see some snow tomorrow but said “outlook hazy” for ski conditions today.
The 5k, Dog Loop and Farm are CLOSED. Keep an eye out for growing wet patches and water hazards flowing above and below the surfaces. Wax will be yellow with structure or surfboard today. Flippers and snorkel are optional. Wax and base structure matter in weather like this. Well-waxed fish scales or skin skis for classic are recommended. Please be aware of any icy or wet patches near the trails, in the parking lot and on walkways. Walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs. Please no walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. When you need to take a physical and/or mental therapy getaway or a well deserved break from the news cycle we’re here for you.
It will be a perfect day to drop off your skis for a warm wax massage treatment before tonight’s snow. Sip a warm mug of Joy, venture bravely outside, be safe and be kind out there. Thank you for being part of our remarkable ski community and reading through our dampish trail report today. The osprey and waterfowl are enjoying the weather. Drop in the store to say hi, shop the 40% off sale and visit for a while. Everyone ski safe and get it while you can!

Our spring sale is fully on! All skis, boots, poles and clothing 40% off marked prices. High performance spray and powder waxes (except Toko Jet) and Toko and Swix iron-in waxes are 40% off. All sales are final. No holds, returns or refunds. Limited to stock on hand. Get in and gear up now!

We strongly recommend stopping in the shop BEFORE you head out on the trails when we have these changing Spring conditions. If you head out and assume you know the conditions, you could be quite surprised. We want you to have a great ski experience every day and we’re doing our best every day to try to make it happen. Everyone ski safe and aware!

If you completed three Wasatch Citizens Series races or were a race season pass holder and you haven’t picked it up yet, your WCS beanie is available at the White Pine Touring Nordic Center. Drop in and pick it up! ~

Nordic Trail Conditions

We are still in snow saving mode here at the Community Center for another extreme spring day. We are grooming the 3km and Armstrong this morning and resetting some classic track where we are able. We will have a fairly good but firm and fast surface early and softening through early afternoon. The older classic tracks should soften up by about 1 today. The best skiing will be from about 10:30 until 1:30 today where the trail will soften but not too much.
The 5k remains closed, but if you pick your way out, the crust skiing should be okay for a while today. Skating will be crusty and firm this morning and softening into a slurpee like consistency by late afternoon. Warm wind is expected late in the day which may make it quite soft. Almost everything held up well in the afternoon heat yesterday. We do have icy patches, grassy patches, exposed pavement and wet areas under the snow and near the trail so keep your eyes open, stay alert and ski safe.
It will be an okay day for snowshoeing if the skiing isn’t your vibe and you still need to get outside for a while. Please check in at the Nordic Center for any updates.
The magic 8 ball indicated that we’ll see some snow tomorrow. The Dog Loop and Farm are CLOSED and not recommended for skiing. Keep an eye out for ice, growing wet patches and watery bits flowing above and below the surfaces. If it does soften significantly, please switch to classic skiing late in the day to prevent skate ruts from forming. Wax will be red/yellow with structure for skate and classic today. Wax and base structure matter in weather like this. Well-waxed fish scales or skin skis for classic will be a great option. SPF 30+ is also recommended. Please be aware of any icy or wet patches near the trails, in the parking lot and on walkways. Please walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs.

Please no walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. The snow bunnies will be out for their usual adventures today and watching the migratory birds pass over. Drop in the store to say hi, shop the 40% off sale and visit for a while. We are still in snow saving mode here at the Community Center. We are grooming the 3km and Armstrong this morning and resetting some classic track where we are able. The snowcat will be purring along with a very light touch. We will have a good surface early and through early afternoon. The older classic tracks should soften up by mid-day. The 5k remains closed, but if you pick your way out, the crust skiing should be okay for a while today. Skating will be creamy smooth on top and firm underneath this morning and softening over the day. Everything held up surprisingly well in the afternoon sun yesterday. It will be a good sunny day for snowshoeing if the skiing isn’t your vibe and you still need to get outside. Please check in at the Nordic Center for any updates.

The Dog Loop and Farm are very patchy, uneven, muddy, icy and CLOSED and not recommended for skiing. Keep an eye out for the low bush and moisture flowing below the surfaces. fast morning, soft in the sun
ski the snow today

Back in snow saving mode here at the Community Center. We are surface grooming the 3km and Armstrong this morning. We will have some fast crust early and yesterday’s classic tracks on the 3k and Armstrong. The classic tracks should soften up by mid-day. The breeze may come into play today and keep the surface a little glazed for longer this morning. The 5k remains closed, but if you pick your way out, the crust skiing should be okay for a while today. Skating will be fast and crunchy this morning and softening over the day. Everything (except the 5k) held up quite well in the afternoon sun yesterday. We do have some icy patches and wet areas under the snow so keep your eyes open and look forward. It will be a good sunny day for snowshoeing if the skiing isn’t speaking to you and you need to get outside.
Please check in at the Nordic Center or check the report later for any updates.
The Dog Loop and Farm are very patchy, uneven, muddy, icy and CLOSED and not recommended for skiing. Keep an eye out for the low bush peeking along the edges. There are grassy, icy, wet and cart paths patches lurking underneath and near the trails. Skiing should be good all day today and best between 10 and about 2:30. If it does soften significantly, please switch to classic skiing late in the day to prevent skate ruts from forming.
Wax will be red with structure for skate and classic after 10:30 today. Well-waxed fish scales or skin skis for classic would be a great option as the day progresses. SPF 30+ for your face today is recommended. Please be aware of icy patches near the trails, in the parking lot and walkways. The Magic 8 Ball was spot on again this morning. We asked if it would be another bluebird ski day. It answered “As I see it,Yes.” It was cold overnight and that continues to dry out the snow a little. We groomed the 3km and Armstrong loops last night. We will have some fresh corduroy and shallow classic on the 3k and Armstrong. The Magic 8 ball also nailed the 5k forecast. We asked if it would be open today and the response was “my sources say no.” We were unable to groom after significant snow melt there yesterday afternoon. Skating will be fast and crunchy this morning and softening over the day. Everything (except the 5k) held up quite well in the afternoon sun yesterday. We do have some icy patches and wet areas under the new snow so keep your eyes open and look forward.
It will be a great day for snowshoeing if the skiing isn’t speaking to you and you still need to get outside.
Please check in at the Nordic Center or check the report later for any updates.
The Dog Loop and Farm are very patchy, uneven, muddy, icy and CLOSED and not recommended for skiing until we change their status. Keep an eye out for the low bush peeking through the sides. There are grassy, icy and wet patches lurking underneath and near the trails. Skiing should be good all day today but may get sticky by mid afternoon.
It was definitely a little beach-like by afternoon. Please be aware of icy patches near the trail, in the parking lot and walkways. Please walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs. No walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. When you need to take a physical and/or mental therapy getaway or a short break from the news cycle we’re here for you.
It will be a great afternoon to drop off your skis for a refreshing warm wax massage so they’ll be ready for more spring skiing. Feel Joy out on the trail, breathe some fresh air, soak in some sunshine, be safe and be kind out there. Thank you for being part of our remarkable ski community all season so far and reading through our “magic 8 ball” trail report. Looking forward to some really good spring skiing conditions in the next few days! The snow bunnies will be out to play today. Drop in the store to say hi, shop the sale and visit for a few minutes. We’ll see you on the trails!
