Sunday January 6, 2019 — With a wet and wild Wasatch storm rolling in just in time, around 300 skiers braved their way to Mountain Dell for SkiFest ’19. Skiers demoed the latest and greatest in equipment and took lessons from TUNA’s membership. Despite somewhat treacherous road conditions, skiers were there bright and early and ready to ski.
By the time things wrapped up, the groomers had met their match with the sticky, zero-degree snow piling up on the course. Conditions didn’t seem to bother large groups of skiers taking their first strides and glides through what could only be called a powder day at the Dell.
Thank you to Everyone!
TUNA would like to thank everyone involved for making this event a smashing success. Local retailers REI and Wasatch Touring teamed up with manufacturers Rossingnol, Salomon, Atomic, and Madshus as well as Toko wax to make sure everyone tried skiing under the expert eyes of experienced TUNA coaches.
We hope everyone had an amazing day, and that you’ll be back to ski the trails, participate in programs for youth and adults, and perhaps test your skills at a Wasatch Citizens race. You can follow TUNA on Twitter (featuring daily grooming reports) and Instagram @utahnordic, and on Facebook: search “TUNA (The Utah Nordic Alliance).
Photo Essay
Getting a good photo was next to impossible in the storm, but TUNA’s Mark Keeney did his best to capture the event in photos.
