The Wasatch Citizens Series distance skate race scheduled for Saturday at the Farm is canceled. We did not receive enough new snow to create a safe and sustainable trail on the Farm. Your season race pass or four completed race beanies will be available Saturday morning at 10am at the St. Mary’s Church Social Hall. We’ll have medals and a MEGA prize drawing for those who show up. We’ll also bring some donuts and bagels and we can hang out and commiserate for a while. We tried our best to try to make a suitable course, but everything depended on a lot more snowfall on the warm muddy ground.
We shook the Magic 8 Ball this morning and asked if skiing would be great today, It answered “it is decidedly so” We’ll run with that for the conditions on the trail today. We received another inch of snow overnight with some light flurries this morning. We are grooming and track setting the 3km, 5km and Armstrong loops. We packed the 5k yesterday to prepare it for grooming this morning. Please stay off the trail for 30 minutes after grooming in order for the tracks and skate surface to set up for better skiing. Skiing will be a little slow this morning but firming up over the day. The surface with the fresh groom will be soft like foamy soap bubbles this morning. We did have some icy patches and wet areas under the new snow so keep your eyes open and look forward. It will be a great day for snowshoeing if the skiing isn’t speaking to you and you still need to get outside. We’ll lay out some fresh corduroy on the surface and have the tracks in shape for you. Please check in or check the report later for any updates.
The Dog Loop and Farm are very patchy, uneven, muddy and CLOSED and not recommended for skiing until we change their status. Keep an eye out for the low brush, grassy and icy or wet patches lurking underneath out there.
Skiing should be best all day today. Wax will be red with structure for skate and classic today. Well-waxed fish scales or skin skis for classic would be a great option as the day progresses. Be aware of icy patches near the trail, in the parking lot and walkways. Walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs. Please no walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. As you need to take a physical and/or mental therapy getaway or a needed break from the news cycle we’re here for you every day. It will be a great afternoon to drop off your skis for a relaxing wax massage so they’ll be ready for weeks of spring skiing. Spread Joy out on the trail, breathe some fresh air, rejoice in the fresh fallen snow, be safe and be kind. Thank you for being part of our incredible ski community and reading so patiently into our our first “magic 8 ball” trail report of the spring season. Looking forward to some really good spring skiing conditions in the next few days! Maybe the snow bunnies will come back out to play. Drop in the store to say hi, shop the sale and visit for a few minutes. We’ll see you on the trails!
