We are still in snow saving mode here at the Community Center for another extreme spring day. We are grooming the 3km and Armstrong this morning and resetting some classic track where we are able. We will have a fairly good but firm and fast surface early and softening through early afternoon. The older classic tracks should soften up by about 1 today. The best skiing will be from about 10:30 until 1:30 today where the trail will soften but not too much.
The 5k remains closed, but if you pick your way out, the crust skiing should be okay for a while today. Skating will be crusty and firm this morning and softening into a slurpee like consistency by late afternoon. Warm wind is expected late in the day which may make it quite soft. Almost everything held up well in the afternoon heat yesterday. We do have icy patches, grassy patches, exposed pavement and wet areas under the snow and near the trail so keep your eyes open, stay alert and ski safe.
It will be an okay day for snowshoeing if the skiing isn’t your vibe and you still need to get outside for a while. Please check in at the Nordic Center for any updates.
The magic 8 ball indicated that we’ll see some snow tomorrow. The Dog Loop and Farm are CLOSED and not recommended for skiing. Keep an eye out for ice, growing wet patches and watery bits flowing above and below the surfaces. If it does soften significantly, please switch to classic skiing late in the day to prevent skate ruts from forming. Wax will be red/yellow with structure for skate and classic today. Wax and base structure matter in weather like this. Well-waxed fish scales or skin skis for classic will be a great option. SPF 30+ is also recommended. Please be aware of any icy or wet patches near the trails, in the parking lot and on walkways. Please walk with care in your ski boots and use the handrail on the stairs.
Please no walking, dogs, running, cycling, driving or trespassing on the trails. When you need to take a physical and/or mental therapy getaway or a well deserved break from the news cycle we’re here for you. It will be a perfect afternoon to drop off your skis for a warm wax massage treatment before tomorrow’s snow. Wrap up some Joy out on the trail, breathe that fresh air, be safe and be kind out there. Thank you for being part of our remarkable ski community and reading through our lengthy trail report. The snow bunnies will be out for their usual adventures today and watching the migratory birds pass over. Drop in the store to say hi, shop the 40% off sale and visit for a while.
