Spruces

25°F at 0930. Spruces trails groomed for skating. Classic tracks holding up well, so I did not mess with those. An interesting mix out there. Still some fine grained crystals in the shady spots like Milt’s and some fully transformed snow where the melt/freeze happened last night. It will be very slick under the trees and areas that see a lot of sun.

Happy Valentine’s Day! The track is showing signs of age and sunshine but holding up well. Today I groomed the skate lane before the sun got on the snow, to buff it out. It should ski very well through mid day. Classic track is about done for until we get a bit more snow and a chance to reset the track. Hopeful that will be Tuesday-Wednesday.

Happy Valentines Day! Show some love to your favorite groomers! Extreme Spring continues at least one more day with increasing clouds and warm temperatures. Maybe a change in the air, but we’ll wait until we actually see it. It’s a whole new category of weather skeptics. All trails groomed and open, some shallow classic track reset this morning. Ski with caution because spring conditions means icy in places and slushy in places. Often those places are very near each other on the trails. Skiing has been very good on the 3k, Armstrong and Farm. and remarkably good elsewhere given we are entering 9 weeks without measurable snowfall. Stay safe and please wear your mask indoors at the Nordic Center. Let’s show a little love for each other.

Track Conditions
The lower track has been groomed for skate and a classic lane is set. The upper track is groomed for skate and in good shape. Classic lane is in decent condition in most areas and blown out in others. The bridges are holding with snow coverage but narrowing on certain bridges. Trails will soften up throughout the day due to warmer temperatures. Have a great Sunday and enjoy the skiing!

Beautiful morning! All loops groomed out nicely for skate. Heads up for a few icy spots with firm conditions in the shady spots. Classic lane holding up well and not reset. Include your klister and sunscreen. A few laps in order before the game!

Springtime continues in the Wasatch Back… Fast and a bit spicy in the morning, mashed potatoes in the late afternoon. All trails skate groomed, covered and open. Classic tracks will be shallow and increasingly sparse as the day goes on. Watch for icy places and thin spots. If you are a beginner or a timid skier, you may want to wait until 10am or so. Skiing will be best between about 10 and 2. Expected to be very warm again this afternoon so wax and structure like it’s late March.

How about a little snow action? Please be kind and wear your mask when indoors at the Nordic Center.

Solitude Nordic

This morning the snowcat would not start so so grooming has been done. We had a very busy night with Nordic night and the trails up top have been heavily used, so your best bet would be the Redmans today. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to get the cat back on track soon!

The track was groomed this morning by taking a couple passes on the skate lane. It should be excellent. The classic track is washed out in most places and will not be re done until there is a bit of fresh snow to work with.

Solitude Nordic

12°F at Solitude base at 0830. Trails groomed for classic and skate. Mostly fine grained, cold snow with some transformation in the sunny areas under the trees. Trails are fast! Slow down, take a minute and look at the mountains.

Saturday Groom.
The track was groomed for both skate and classic. The warmer temps have allowed a reset on classic while the skate pads remain firm and granular with a thin wet top coat forming mid-day.
Lower loop is now closed due to thin conditions as is the Creek loop and World Cup. Skiing should be nice mid-morning. Bring your sunscreen and Bengals hat!

Its going to be a warm one… already 0C at 7:45… Trails are groomed for skate, classic track is shallow. we’ll reset as we can later in the day. Might be time to think about warm structure today. Skiing will be good early but getting slushy and soft as the day heats up. Coverage is still good and the farm, the 3k and Armstrong have been skiing great. Enjoy it while it lasts. Masks are highly recommended while indoors at the Nordic Center. Stay safe.
