Description

Dryland training sessions for ages 11 by Dec 31, 2023 to 14 year-old TUNA junior skiers will be held in Sugarhouse Park beginning Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024. Meet in Sugarhouse Park in the parking lot at the end of the road on the north side of the pond. We will also offer an October 14th entry date with a pro-rated fee for skiers who are doing a fall sport.

The training program is designed to help young athletes have fun, stay fit, and prepare for the upcoming cross country ski season. Skiers interested in joining the TUNA Junior Comp Team are strongly encouraged to participate. Training sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons from 4:15 – 5:45 PM.

Expectations

The Junior Comp Dryland program is age-appropriate training for skiers who intend to participate in Junior Comp Winter. The team will be running, bounding, rollerskiing, playing some games, and doing ski-specific strength training. The coaches work to design a plan that builds strength and endurance for ski season. Athletes who participate in the program should expect to participate in the activities programmed by the coaches. All coaches are certified USSA L100 or above.

While everyone has good days and bad days, our program is focused on skiing and learning to ski train. We have no “tryouts” or required prerequisites as long as skiers try their best. In other words, we’re here to practice for skiing. We will teach ski skills to anyone who wants to learn. However, we won’t accommodate those who are causing a disruption or are interfering with others’ enjoyment of the program. Please be certain before registering for the program that your athlete wants to participate in ski training that can include longer runs and hikes as well as short, harder efforts.

What to wear/bring: Running shoes, athletic clothes suited for the weather, snack and water, classic, skate, or combi boots for designated rollerski days.
