Wondering which junior program is right for your skier? Here’s an easy reference list by age. Keep scrolling for equipment purchase information.

Programs by Age

Preschool, 4 – 8

Program: Learn-to-ski
Goal: Learn to enjoy outdoor activities
Equipment: Little kid cross country skis and cross country ski boots
Schedule: Sundays in January

Elementary School, K-7th

Program: Devo
Goal: Learn to cross country ski
Equipment: Combi boots, Classic skin or fishscale skis, skate skis, poles
Rentals are available for this program on a first-come, first-served basis
Schedule: Tue/Thu afternoons in January and February

Middle School, 6th-9th

Program: Junior Comp
Age: Skiers must be 11 by Dec 31st, 2024 for the 2024-2025 season
Goal: Learn to train for cross country ski racing
Equipment: Combi boots, classic waxable skis, skate skis, one pair of poles for each technique (skiers must provide their own equipment)
Schedule: Mon-Tue-Thu afternoons December through February, or Tue-Thu Afternoons (part-time)

Program: XC Team
Age: 7th-12th grade
Goal: Learn to ski, cross train for other sports, enjoy recreational skiing
Equipment: Skate or combi boots, skate skis, poles
Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis
Optional: Classic or combi boots, classic skin or fishscale skis, poles (there are a few rentals available)
Schedule: Tue-Thu afternoons December through February

High School, 9th – 12th

Program: Comp Team
Age: Skiers must be 14 by Dec 31, 2024 for the 2024-2025 season
Goal: Learn to ski race, train for ski racing, compete in the Intermountain Division Junior National Qualifiers at the U16, U18, and U20 levels.
Equipment: Skate boots, skate skis, skate poles, classic boots, classic waxable skis, classic poles
Optional: Additional race skis
Schedule: Daily and some Saturdays, mid-October through February, Part time Mon-Tue-Thu

Where to Find Equipment

The Devo and XC programs have some rentals, but the rest of the programs require equipment purchases. Our coaching team has created some lower-cost opportunities for equipment purchase:

Team Night at Wasatch Touring

This is aimed at Junior Comp, Comp, and XC skiers, but is also available for younger skiers who would like to purchase at a discount.

TUNA Swap

TUNA will hold a ski swap at McGillis School in Salt Lake City. Coaches will be on-site to help with sizing and advice

Date: Sunday, September 29th
Drop-off equipment to sell: 8am
Shop for equipment: 9am – 12pm
Collect your unsold equipment and payout for sold equipment: 12pm – 1pm
