WCS#5 Race Canceled, Prizes Drawing Still On

Despite hopes, dreams, creativity and incredible efforts, we will not be able to host the Wasatch Citizens Series Finale or the Western Region Youth Championship races at the Farm Trail at White Pine Touring.  This winter has dealt a series of weather and snow cover challenges all season.  We’ve accomplished many great things this year, but controlling the snowfall and temperatures remains out of reach.

There was not sufficient snow from this warm wet storm to restore the ski trail at the Farm.  The warm ground and expected temperatures do not support safe grooming nor the establishment of a trail that would support the volumes of ski traffic the weekend events would generate.  It would be nearly impossible to create a safe and sustainable ski trail for either skate or classic.   As I indicated early in the week, we would have needed a great deal more snow to successfully and safely hold a race weekend.

The WCS season finale will be a mega prize drawing at the St. Mary’s Church social hall at 10 am on Saturday.  We will have season beanies, race medals and some pastries.  Bring your own favorite warm beverage and help us clear out the prize table.  You’ll also be able to meet the new WCS Race Director on Saturday.   If you registered for this race, consider rolling your entry fee into a donation to the WCS and the 501c3 Utah Nordic Alliance.

There is not an alternative venue or weekend for the WCS race. The 3km and Armstrong trails at the Nordic center will be groomed and open for public skiing this weekend and beyond.
