Friday’s Haiku:
Crispy cold blue wax
Winter sheaths the trails today
Sun and smiles abound

Cross Country 101 Friday January 9th 4-6 pm at the Nordic Center. Are you skinny ski curious? Our Nordic experts will go over how, why and where to get into the sport. We’ll go over equipment, how to dress and how to get started! $10 fee at the door with prizes for attendees.

Crispy cold this morning. It was 9 degrees at 7am. It’s almost winter like. We’ve groomed the 3km Community Loop first this morning with as much classic track as possible and then we’ll head to Armstrong and the 5km loop (packed but very thin in places) to see if the coverage is sufficient to open them.

Conditions will be firm and cold for skating this morning, classic skiing will be quite good all day. Please ski with awareness in the corners and under the trees as the trail remains thin in a couple areas. There are unmarked hazards here and there. The newly raised golf cart paths are unavoidable and we’re working to keep them hidden.
Definitely a blue wax day today. Our other ski trails remain closed for right now. We are OPEN 9-5 today with our XC in store clinic this afternoon. We are offering lessons, renting skis and snowshoes. Drop in to the shop, purchase your trail pass and give us a smile on the way out to ski! Keep those snow dances going. It will be a lovely day for skiing, bundle up and go play!

Thursday Haiku:
Palpable ski stoke,
We’ve been waiting for so long,
Put your skis on now

We received just over 3 inches of snow overnight. We’ll be grooming the 3km Community Loop first this morning and then heading to Armstrong and the 5km loop to see if the coverage is sufficient to open them. Conditions will be soft for skating this morning, classic skiing will be quite good all day. Please ski with awareness in the corners and under the trees as the trail remains thin in areas. There is chance for more snow through mid day today so we’ll assess as the day progresses. There are unmarked hazards.

By far the best snow conditions we’ve had sheathing the tracks all season now. Our other ski trails remain closed for right now. Stay tuned. We are OPEN 9-5 today. We are giving lessons, renting skis and snowshoes. Drop in to the shop, purchase your trail pass and give us a smile on the way out to ski! Keep those snow dances going. We are still taking suggestions for ceremonies and rituals to encourage the snow deities to release their fluffy gifts upon the trails.

A reminder, no walking, running, dog walking, sledding or other non-ski activities on the trails. It destroys hours of work and diminishes the ski experience for everyone.

No, Fairview has no snow yet but the coming storm may change that. Hoping for enough snow to start grooming. Stay tuned.
Meanwhile, several of us have been making trips to the N Skyline (9000′) the last 10 days just to get on snow. Skating was possible last week as well as classic- all on the ungroomed road (Skyline Drive N). Snowmobile traffic always a possibility. Monday’s storm delivered some new snow which made for spectacular classic skiing yesterday on skier-set tracks, and hopefully one more day of the same before the next storm rolls in. I will post if I find out grooming has happened, in which case the skating would also be excellent.

We snowmobile groomed the 3km Community Loop last night. It is not perfect. It is firm for skating this morning and remains thin in areas. Ski with awareness. It will be softer this afternoon with the warming before the storm. There are unmarked hazards. By far the best snow conditions we’ve had sheathing the tracks and trees since early December. If it warms up in the afternoon please stay to classic only to save the snow. We’re releasing you from the pen to go play, but romp with care.

Our other ski trails remain closed for today. We are OPEN 9-5 today. We are giving lessons, renting skis and snowshoes. Drop in to the shop, buy your pass and give us a smile on the way out to ski! We are excited about forecast for the week, but are still taking suggestions for ceremonies and rituals to encourage the snow deities to release their fury upon the trails.

Haiku of the day: Walking dogs is good, Please not on the trails ever, help keep skiing safe

It’s back to looking like Narnia out here! Phew! Thank you all for your cold thoughts, we got down to 20 F and are blowing lots of snow! We maybe extended a new length off Pony Express and the rest of the 1.5 km is groomed to perfection with purchasable crushed granular and well-set tracks. We welcome our first session of Kickers & Gliders today at 4 pm!

Nordic Trail Conditions

White Pine

The rumor is true, we’ve unlocked the gate on the 3km Community Loop today after just over 6″ of snow yesterday morning! It is not perfect. It is soft and not super deep, but by far the best snow conditions we’ve had sheathing the trails since early December. Skate and classic will be quite good, but if it warms up in the afternoon please switch to classic only to save the snow.
We’re releasing you from the pen to go play, but romp with care. We will try to set shallow classic track and see how it goes, but the corduroy will be there. Our other ski trails remain closed for today. We are OPEN 9-5 today. We are giving lessons, renting skis and snowshoes.
Drop in to the shop and give us a smile on the way out to ski! We are optimistic about forecast for the week, but remain taking suggestions for ceremonies and rituals to encourage the snow deities to continue to release their fury with more frosty stuff.

Solitude Nordic

Good morning! At 0830 it is 26° with 11″ of new snow overnight. Lake Flats groomed for skate and classic skiing. Moderate to heavy snow forecasted through the day. Classic tracks will fill in quickly as snow accumulates on the track. Nice to see some substantial snow!

White Pine

About 1 inch of suspicious white stuff sheathing the ground this morning. We’ll investigate and try to find out what it is. This week is looking like the most promising snow conditions we’ve had since early December. Our ski trails remain closed for now. A sleet/snow mix this morning, but the temperatures are good for rebuilding the base. The Nordic Shop is OPEN 9-5 today.
We are renting skis for Bonanza Flats and snowshoes for area trails. Our backcountry snowshoe tours remain a great option for getting out! Drop in to the shop and help us gather at the window and marvel at the secrets of winter. We are optimistic about the week, but remain taking suggestions for ceremonies and rituals to encourage the snow deities to release their fury.
