White Pine

a beautiful morning today! All trails groomed and open. Skating will be amazing early, amazingly spring-like later. Check road conditions before you go. Lots of ice out there this morning. As per Summit County Health Order 2022-1 MASKS ARE REQUIRED INDOORS FOR EVERYONE IN OR VISITING SUMMIT COUNTY. Please help us stay healthy. We want to keep the trails and the shop open.

We are warm today! Conditions will be very soft and skiing not recommended until temperatures drop and I can hopefully create a good surface again. A bit of new snow would help.

It’s a good day to remember that there is no bad weather, only poor clothing choices. Warm and wet today with periods of mixed rain and snow. Not an easy day for classic waxing, but a great day for using skin skis or skating. Midday should be the prime time for skiing. Everything will be touched up for grooming. Please remember masks are REQUIRED indoors at the Nordic Center. We’re doing this for your health, for our health and for all of our families. We want to stay open and continue to see your smiling faces.

Snow/rain mix off and on most of the day Wednesday has taken a toll. We will not be grooming for Thursday as we wait for the moisture to settle out. If you ski, expect very soft and uneven conditions. Show caution on parts of the trail that travel over pavement.

Mixed conditions today with the snow. everything groomed early, but tracks will disappear with new snow. Good day to enjoy winter in a nuanced way. Travel safe and please remember to mask up inside the store. We’re doing everything we can to keep ourselves and you healthy.

Deer Hollow Winter Recreation Area

Deer Hollow, east of Cedar City on UT-14 has about 4 feet of nice snow, but it has not been groomed yet with the State Parks groomer due to weather conditions on our usual Thursday grooming day. In the meantime, club volunteers try to use a roller and a small Ginsu-groomer on some of the trails. The parking area has not yet been plowed by our unknown “snow angels” but we hope they will start plowing it soon. The snowplow turnaround nearby (at the boundary of Iron and Kane counties) can be used for parking on non snow days but if your car is in way of UDOT snowplows it may be towed away. We will let you know when conditions improve soon.

Warm before the storm this morning. All trails groomed and open, new snow expected mid-afternoon. It will be increasingly breezy before the snow arrives, so get out early if you can. Please remember to mask up while indoors at the Nordic Center. Do your part to help us all stay healthy and open for business. As a reminder, please park legally when visiting White Pine Touring. The turn-around circle is a fire lane, not a parking area. We believe that if you’re strong enough to ski a few km on the trail, you’re strong enough to walk 150 feet from a legal parking space. Legal parking is available along Thaynes Canyon Drive, around the Hotel Park City and underground. We are also accessible via Park City’s free public transit system and via non-motorized means. Thank you for your cooperation.

Groomed all loops except World Cup for skate Monday evening. Existing classic is in good shape and was left alone. Primary focus was on leveling out areas that have seen snow blowing efforts from previous storm cycle to shore up base. Think of these snow blowing efforts as putting money in the bank if you will despite the challenging skiing they can provide for a few days until things can get leveled out. New snow expected Tuesday/Wednesday, but weather guessers seem to be hedging on when, how much and what form (rain/snow)? Unfortunately, the track will be rutted today as lone skier showed up at 21:30 just as we were finishing shift and stowing machines, thinking that the soft corduroy would provide for some great skiing. Pro tip: it does not. Skis much better after it has had a chance to set up and firm up overnight. Happy New Year!
