Another day of extreme Spring! Icy this morning, great crust cruising until maybe 10:30 am if the track doesn’t make you smile early. Sweet spot on the trails will be 11 wish until about 2:30 or so. Warm wax and structure once the sun starts to soften things up. The 5k has a few detours and many thin spots so ski with caution and keep your head up. Maybe another day on it? 3k has some thin spots and some also on the Farm in the usual areas. Have fun and ski attentively. Our days may be numbered if the cooler air doesn’t get here soon. We’ll try to stay open as long as we can provide a good ski experience for you.

Thank you season pass holders for your support and to everyone who proudly purchases and displays their trail pass! This stuff doesn’t come cheap and we truly appreciate your support.

Remind the dog walkers, walkers and visitors that the grooming they are walking on is what you are paying to ski on… Excellent hiking and dog walking on the Basin Trails and Round Valley!

White Pine

If you’re lucky, you’ll get a lap in on the 5k today. might not be possible tomorrow. Spring conditions, super icy this morning, but super slush by the end of the day. The construction, the sun, dog walkers and the trail walkers have pretty much dealt the 5k a final blow. The 3k and Farm are still in play. Please purchase and display your pass!

Stay safe and behave yourselves!

Groomed the Upper, Lower, and Pavilion Loops today. About 1/2 inch of new snow was great! Sadly, we are losing snow up here, and now there are thin spots on the north side of the track almost everywhere. No classic set today as that side of the track is thin. Be careful! However, lots of great skiing up here still, plenty of snow on most of the loops. If you have been enjoying the skiing this year, feel free to send me an email at matthew.hales@usda.gov. I’m also looking for some volunteer help to cut some new ski trail at Spruces this summer. Thanks!

Beautiful morning!!! about an inch of fresh snow. new classic tracks set on the 3k and 5k and Armstrong. Farm should be amazing later. Things are holding up fairly well. Hopefully the 5k will make it through to the colder weather this weekend. 3k is so good! Construction area is a bit of a mess so use caution. Red/Yellow wax today as it warms up. Skiing should be great through early afternoon with the moderate temperatures. A couple from out of town and numerous dog walkers postholed almost the entire classic and skate track on the 5 k late yesterday, but Lou has reset as much as possible this morning. Ski with caution, rewax and structure your skis!!!

Please help us save the tracks for as long as we can by reminding visitors, dog walkers and locals and new locals to go elsewhere.. Round Valley and Basin Rec trails come to mind…

only one set of poles left on the wall and 5 skate skis ~105 pounds so if your of that stature or know someone who is, get in to the shop. Lots of waxes on sale too! The person who buys the last set of skis off the wall will get a special prize!

Stay safe, Stay healthy and get out to ski today! Conditions are so very good

We have groomed the Lower and upper trails this morning. Current conditions are very icy! Both tracks will soften up throughout the day with the temperatures reaching the low 40’s. Our bridges are covered but please use caution when approaching and skiing over them as they are thinning and narrowing. We appreciate all patrons coming to ski the Ranch. The season is ending quickly, so make sure to come ski today!

I would (almost) never discourage someone from skiing, BUT at Spruces today, at least until it warms up, it will be a little rough-survival skiing with white knuckles and clenched teeth. Better in the afternoon. Just letting you know…
Tomorrow will be better.

Solitude Nordic

Beware the Ides of March! Middle and Little Redman were not groomed this morning. All other trails are groomed for SKATING only. No classic tracks. Fast snow-watch your speed, and don’t let anyone sneak up behind you and stab you in the back!

Full on Spring conditions. Icy morning, sweet spot from about 10 til about 2, mushy in the afternoon. All trails are open, but ski with caution near thin or icy areas. Be aware of icy sections in the shade. Red wax and STRUCTURE today (yes, we’ll structure your skis for you for a small fee) The sale goes on with clothing marked way down. If you enjoy spring skiing and weigh around 145-160 pounds, there is one pair of marked down Salomon S-Lab white bases left.. just sayin.. One pair of Rossignol R Skin classics (155-185 lbs) left that are perfect for spring conditions as well.

Lessons are still available daily if you want to learn or fine tune your technique. Its a great time to embody some good habits to help you for this and future seasons. Check us out on the AP Newswire from yesterday! “Call of the wild: Great outdoors is great escape in pandemic”

Please purchase and display your pass! Help us remind walker, fat bikers. mountain bikers and dog owners that post holes and ruts are dangerous for skiers and really difficult to groom out. Help us remind them that Basin Recreation and Mountain Trails have wonderful multi-use trails just for those activities.

We have groomed for skate and set the classic lane on the Upper and Lower Trails last night. Coverage is still good with the new snowfall last night . Both tracks will soften up throughout the day with the temperatures reaching the low 40’s. Our bridges are covered but please use caution when approaching and skiing over them as they are thinning and narrowing. We appreciate all patrons coming to ski the Ranch. It should be a great day to come and ski! Have a great weekend!

Solitude Nordic

Warmer this morning with snow, wind and a little graupel thrown in the mix. Skiing on the lake is very windy with blowing and drifting snow, so skiing in the trees will be the best option. Everything groomed for skate skiing. No classic tracks today.
