We groomed for skate on our 1.1k loop on the lower track this morning. We shoveled snow onto the bridges on our 1.1k loop and bridge coverage is holding. The skate lane groomed up really nice, but classic lanes are closed at this time due to lack of snow coverage. We have received less than an inch of new snow, so conditions remain firm this morning and should remain firm throughout the day. Please stay on the groomed trails.

What?!?! Maybe those snow dances are working! A small amount of actual snow falling from the sky! About 1/2 inch of good dense snow will make for a great ski day. We’re able to reset shallow classic in most places and we’ll be shoveling thin spots all morning. Thank your groomer! Come share the Joy of skiing. We are open 9-5 daily. Cooler today with mixed clouds. Please continue to be careful and ski within your abilities. Early conditions will be hard pack under the new snow and fairly fast. Ski with awareness through the day and into the afternoon. Just a light resurfacing groom this morning and an update of the established classic track will help with classic conditions today. There is not enough snow depth to reset deep classic track and parts remain intermittent. Red or purple wax today. Skating will be good all day. Classic will be a bit better than most of the last week.
We have 12km of skiing open. Remember to ski with care, those thinning spots, icy spots and exposed areas are still close to the surface. Please ride the bus, micro transit, carpool, skateboard, cycle, e-bike or walk if you can. Parking is available all around the hotel and underground but everything you can do to reduce single driver trips helps! We’ve groomed the 3k, 5k and Armstrong. The dog loop is ok-ish. It is tracked out with walkers and flooded in the lower part. Wax cards and all of the waxes from basic to super fast are in the shop. Be sure to thank our incredible groomers when you see them. Lou, Roch, Matias, Mark, Joaqiun and Julian have been working extremely hard to make your ski experience the best it can be. And they have been doing a great job. None of that track and morning grooming happens by accident. And please if you see a stick, pinecone or willow branch on the trail, flick it off the trail. We want to preserve every single flake!
If your skis are slow it’s definitely time to wax. White Pine Touring is a Flouro Free zone. No HF, LF or PFC waxes are allowed by county ordinance and common sense. If you have old Flouro waxes bring them in to the recycling bin in the shop and we’ll give you 25% off Flouro Free high performance replacement sprays and hard waxes. Thursday scoop: US Nationals continue tomorrow (Thursday) with partial race closures. 2/3 of the track used up by the races but pretty much the whole hollow and probably the first part of Pony Express will be open to the public all day long. (1.5-3k of groomed manmade depending on whether the snow whales on pony express get flattened and combed tonight). All the trails will be open once sprints are done around 4:45 until twilight close at 6:30.

Near perfect conditions on maybe 7k of manmade with sunny skies and not to warm or cold! We are hosting US Nationals this week but today is an official training day and open to everyone all day except for a very small closure from 1-230 for a sit ski race. Plenty of snow to be had even during the race though as it will only use 1-1.5k around the new building. Expect decent crowds (usually busiest 9-11am) of fast skiers previewing courses and expect to be inspired if you watch the sit skiers. Except for the whole system being open, it is about as good as it gets; rest assured I personally tested the snow just before writing this.
Solitude Nordic
Groomed Solitude Street, Cabin Fever, Bypass, Silver Lake, and Lake loop. Everything else is still in good shape (except Cornucopia is still closed). Classic tracks are great throughout.

Groomed skate deck today. Old classic tracks are still set above Elbow Fork. Conditions are firm, fast, icy, and chunky but improve with elevation.

Excellent snow conditions and grooming today on 5km of trail. Public skiing will open at 3:30pm after the Nationals race wraps up and stay open until 6:30pm under the lights. The trails are double tracked classic so classic will be best this afternoon and tonight.
Public skiing will be open all day on Jan. 3. Official training for the nationals sprint will be happening on 1.3km sprint trail so that section will be busy, especially 9-11am.

New grooming on Solitude Street, Cabin Fever, Silver Lake, and Lake loop. Reliable classic tracks can be found on the Lake loop and the Redman loops.
I HIGHLY recommend sticking to either the Lake loop or the Redmans and NOT skiing up and down New Sensation and Cabin Fever. There are many exposed rocks and rough trails. Ski in control and within your ability! There are rumors of new snow coming this weekend.
Parking is free at the Nordic Center and in Solitude Village after 1pm.

We’ll wait and see about the storm but check the TUNA website and blasts for updates about the scheduled Farm race on Saturday. It’s not looking very likely even with the forecasted snow coming early tomorrow. We need a lot and then some time to get the Farm open. The result of the beaver dams and the summer activities on the creek and irrigation ditches may have season long implications if the water can’t be diverted back to the natural creek bed.

Happy New Year! Today is the first official training day ahead of US Nationals. Please be respectful of our classic tracks especially when skate skiing. Snow is still cold and crusty in the mornings. but softening up in the afternoons. We will likely be fully closed to public skiing during races, but we hope to continue our snowmaking efforts to open up Pony Express for the public later in the week.
