Tuesday Haiku:
In the 5k case,
As Elsa sang, “Let it Go”
Tragic, thin, it’s gone

Continued warm, dry Spring conditions, trails will be very firm and cold most of the day with a nice fresh skate surface on the 3k “Community Loop.” Be friendly out there and please no walking, littering or dogs on the trails. Cold nights are helping keep the snow around and warm afternoon temperatures remain. Blue or purple wax today with SPF 50+ for skate and classic. The 3km loop remains a cold loop wrapped in snow and OPEN with good coverage due to the heroic community shoveling efforts. We groomed a skate lane refresh on the 3km “Community Loop” and Armstrong access last night. Classic tracks are diminished with not enough snow depth to reset.
The 5km Loop is CLOSED.
The 5km will not be regroomed or reopened until we get more snow. Skiing on the 3k will be good all day today. The Armstrong access is packed and OPEN to the field but thin and not recommended beyond that. Ski with focus and caution on the firm trails. There are unmarked hazards and the afternoon sun will start to deteriorate exposed parts of the track a bit. The Farm and Dog Loop ski trails remain closed.
We are OPEN 9-5 today offering lessons, rentals of skis and snowshoes. Drop in the shop, check out the new gear, purchase your trail pass and ski today! Snow dances, offerings to the snow deities and yoga this evening at sunset. It will be a lovely sunny day for skiing, wrap up early, peel off layers as needed and go play outside! Ski now while we have it, the next storm will arrive in the future…

A HUGE THANK YOU to our groomer and ski community volunteer shoveling teams who’ve spent hours out on the trails keeping your skiing possible. It’s difficult work and they give their all to make the trails as great as conditions allow. We have the best community of supporters and staff around.

Detours are in place and a short walk is required to connect the two halves of the 5k. The outer part of the 5km will not be regroomed until we get more snow.

Saturday Haiku:
Trail is quite good,
small icy spots peeking grass,
ski it with a smile

Continued Spring conditions. Share the trails. We have a lot of skiers and somewhat limited trails with about 8km total open. Be friendly out there and please no walking or dogs on the trails.
Cold nights are helping keep the snow around but moderating warm afternoon temperatures are keeping it good. Blue or purple wax until mid morning, then red wax SPF 50+ late in the day for skate and classic if it warms up. The 3km loop remains wrapped in snow and open with good coverage due to some heroic shoveling efforts. We groomed a very light skate lane refresh on the 3km “Community Loop”, the 5km “Pond Loop” and Armstrong access last night.
Detours are in place and a short walk is required to connect the two halves of the 5k. Ski with awareness, patience and focus. Skiing will be good all day today. Trail coverage remains very good in most places. We have disappearing glazed classic track throughout the network. Armstrong access is packed and OPEN to the field but thin and exposed beyond that.
Ski with caution in the corners, crossing cart paths and near the trees as the trails remain thin and the lack of fresh snow is not helping. There are unmarked hazards and the afternoon sun will start to deteriorate exposed parts of the track further. The Farm and Dog Loop ski trails remain closed. Extreme Spring conditions. Cold nights are helping keep the snow around but the very warm afternoons are taking a stiff toll. Blue or purple wax until mid morning, then red and SPF 50+ later for skate and classic. The 3km loop remains wrapped in snow and open with good coverage due to some heroic shoveling efforts. We groomed a very light skate lane refresh on the 3km “Community Loop”, the 5km “Pond Loop” last night. Detours are in place and a walk is required to connect the two halves of the 5k.

Ski with awareness, patience and focus. Best skiing will be from 9 until about noon again today. Trail coverage remains very good in most places. We have disappearing glazed classic track throughout the network. Trail surfaces will be starting to transform and melt by noon. Ski before mid day if at all possible. Armstrong is packed and OPEN to the field but thin and exposed in growing areas. Ski with caution in the corners, crossing cart paths and near the trees as the trails remain thin and the relentless heat is not helping. There are unmarked hazards and the afternoon heat will start to deteriorate exposed parts of the track further.

And, if you made it this far in the long form report, thank you all for your support during this very challenging season. We’re keeping the enthusiasm up even though the snowpack is less than stellar.

Soldier Hollow

More impeccable skiing on increased terrain today. Yesterday the sprint loop and cabin loop were opened in addition to the hollow out and back that has kept us going previously (perhaps 3-4k in all). Classic track set on all loops and world class grooming will make for great skiing or training. Heber is just low enough that the top edge of the inversion is helping to preserve the snow surface but high enough that you avoid just about all of the gunky air being suffered in Salt Lake or Provo.
