Track Conditions
The lower track has been groomed for skate and the classic lane is thinning but holding in most areas. The upper track is closed due to lack of snow on certain portions of the trail. With the snowfall coming this weekend, we will look to reopen the upper track if snow levels allow. Ski with high caution as there are some icy areas on the lower track. We may close the lower track in the afternoon and await further snow as well. Have a great day!!

Well, our first 24hr melt cycle.. Standing water and ice patches on all trails. Big ponds on the Farm. Dirt and pollution are bubbling to the surface. Let’s hope for a refresh later today and some colder temps. 44 degrees with rain coming at 7:30 am. It is what it is today. slushy conditions, wet conditions. Skiing will be pretty good if your structure is on point but keep your eyes forward and watch where you are going. unmarked hazards, some exposed cart paths and grass, dirt from the golf course operations… definitely a day to practice your adventure skills. Ski safe.

Solitude Nordic

29°F/ -1.7C at 0845. Skating will be the best bet today. Some classic tracks are fresh and some are recycled from yesterday. Thank you for your patience in this low-snow year with difficult grooming conditions.

Hanging on! SKI WITH CAUTION EARLY! A week of record setting heat is doing us no favors. Despite that, and as a result of a lot of hard work, all trails remain open for skiing. It is full on icy this morning, but if you wait until mid-morning, the fresh crumble will soften up and skiing will be quite good until mid-afternoon. After that? Slush fest and more ice overnight. SKI WITH CAUTION EARLY! We mean it. Tracks will be icy early, soft later. It is summer after all. Please be safe and help us out by wearing your mask while indoors. We’ve made it this far, just a few more weeks.

I am back from skiing the Birkie last week. Yesterday I worked on the lower loop for a while early. The new snow has crusted and it was hard to groom. Now we are in a very warm pattern so I am leaving it as is until 1) spring arrives and I think we are done for the season, or 2) winter returns and we get some fresh snow that I can work with.
Sorry about the missed opportunity last week to groom another storm since there is still good snow out there. It just makes it clear to me that we need a second groomer. I would like to get our skiing community together soon to talk about this as well as some other ideas for continued growth of our venue and the sport in our area.

repeat from yesterday. More sun, more heat. great skiing early, slush festival later. Get some structure on those skis. All trails groomed and open, but the 5k is starting to show the effects of the extreme heat. Ski it while you can! Stay safe!

Grooming is on hold at Mountain Dell. As of sunset on Tuesday night, you could ski a complete loop on Main, Mitten, Kids and the top of Lollipop without touching grass, but that will not be the case Wednesday. If snow comes in as predicted on Saturday night/Sunday, we will assess and try to continue grooming. Until then, if you are eager to put skis on snow at Mountain Dell, be prepared to walk over a few short patches of grass. Best timing is perhaps 10 A.M. to noon, or after 6 P.M., when the surface will begin to firm up again.

26°F this morning at the Nordic Center. Trails groomed for skate and classic skiing. Still mostly fine- grained snow with some transformation under the trees and areas that get a lot of sun. Early in the day will be better, before it warms up too much.

March 1st, but it’s going to feel like April. Extreme Spring continues with afternoon temperatures expected near 50F. All trails groomed and track set wherever possible. Classic skiing on the whole networks was quite good yesterday and should be good today as well. Icy and slushy mix as the day goes on. Best skiing will be from 9 until about 2. then slush and slow will rule the afternoon. Skiing in the afternoon may leave deep ruts that will be difficult to groom out tomorrow so it might be a good afternoon to rewax and restructure those skis. Or even come into the shop to buy some of the remaining skis and boots. Life is short, have good equipment. Please mask up indoors while visiting us. Help us stay healthy and open for you. Ski safe!

Mountain Dell

Main, Mitten, Lollipop Top and Kid’s Cut-Off groomed for skate only Monday evening. Current conditions (water, slush, ice, grass) in many areas would not allow a reset of the classic without the potential of doing damage to the golf course. Surprisingly, good sections of classic still exist from the weekend crews. Aspect dependent. The snow that does exist is dirty and variable, but reasonable skiing should be had Tuesday before temperatures once again climb. My guess for best skiing is somewhere between 10:00a-12:00p. Outside this window expect to find ice, snow, slush, water and grass. Additional caution is warranted in these conditions and definitely time to leave the race skis in the stable. Still, a good day for a brief slide in glorious Wasatch sunshine. Enjoy!
