A bit longer than average post in order to help make informed decisions on skiing tomorrow morning.

I groomed for skate to Big Mountain Pass late this afternoon. The NWS point forecast for the reservoir is 26 degrees tonight with a dusting of snow. Nobody had destroyed the groom when I left around 6 p.m., so with a little luck, it ought to ski well in the morning.

Several caveats: There’s a good 300’ of walking to get to the first skiable snow. It’s very thin, and likely a tip-toe affair even with the freeze. Then there’s a short section requiring a walk. Snow is then continuous a couple hundred yards before the little dip-curve-climb at around the first mile (MM4), but there’s a short section of thin snow at the top of that tiny climb. It’s then good to the restroom. A maintenance pickup drove to the Affleck gate and left deep ruts. I was able to fill them fairly well, but they’re there. Finally, it’s very thin at Windy Corner (2nd switchback) where with wind sweeps the snow on the left and drifts it on the right.

Despite all those caveats, the corduroy looked good enough that I plan to sample it first thing in the morning. The walking and caution will be rewarded with a nice final ski this season.

New snow yesterday was great! Very nice conditions this morning. We groomed all the loops. Unfortunately, one thin spot on the Lower Loop, north side, under the tree by the creek. We are down to the road there. Might be time to shovel a little snow. How about a little scavenger hunt – there used to be a ski jump at Spruces, where they would hold jumping competitions in the 1930s. The CCC built it under the direction of ski jump champion Alf Engen, who was also a CCC foreman. Can you find where it used to be?

Good morning as we wind down operations. The main Mitten, boomerang and upper lollipop were all groomed this morning for skate and classic. Around 2 inches of fluffy snow fell since yesterday morning but caution for thin and grassy areas still needed.

White Pine

Winter dropped in! about 4 inches of new snow yesterday during the day. Cold and crisp this morning with blue wax and blue sky. Everything regrouped and track set. skiing should be so very good today both skate and classic. Warming a little later, but not enough to break out the xc sandals. The sale will be Sunday, but please note we will be metering access to the shop as part of our ongoing covid protocols. help us stay safe and stay open. We’ve made it this far this season and want to finish safe and healthy for our families.

Please help us remind sledders, walkers, dog owners, fat bikers and other free range types that Round Valley and Basin Rec offer wonderful opportunities for multi-use activities and City Park is a great place to take your tykes sledding.

Come on over today and ski like it’s winter!

Groomed this morning but wasn’t able to set classic track due to how firm the snow is. There was a light dusting of snow which helped smooth out the trail. It will be a great skate ski today.

Getting light snow showers now.

We have groomed for skate and set the classic lane on the Upper and Lower Trails this morning. Coverage is still good with the new snowfall. The bridges are thinning and narrowing so use caution when approaching and skiing over them. Have a great day!!

2 inches of fresh wet snow on top of the trails this morning. All 22km are groomed or being groomed. Skiing should be excellent today, red wax and structure as the day goes on. Bring in your skis and we’ll structure them for ten bucks and send you out to play. Skiing has been so good despite the weather challenges of the last week. The usual thin pots are out there and the tree melt circles are growing so ski with caution as always. Please purchase and display your pass while on the ski trails!

Help us remind walkers, dog owners and fat bikers that the ski trails are for paying skiers…. Lets keep the trails open as long as we can. Its a shame to see so much grooming efforts destroyed by boot prints..

Stay safe and healthy! Mask up while in the shop and at trail heads. The sale starts Sunday for the few items left in the shop. We will be limiting access to the shop, so be prepared to wait in the hall or outside if it is super busy. No complaining, we’re simply trying to stay safe and open.

CAUTION! Mark and Nils are grooming this morning. As of 7 A.M., there is about an inch of new snow, and light snow expected all day, perhaps adding up to another inch or so. In some places on Main (park road) and Lollipop top, the new snow is barely covering small sections of pavement that were bare yesterday. Watch for surface changes (thinner spots) and on your first lap, tread carefully on area where you know the trail travels over pavement. Main, Mitten, Boomerang and Lollipop top groomed for skate, classic on Main. The skiing was very fun yesterday between about 9 A.M. and noon, and should be fun all day today.

Snow finally came! Four inches overnight really has helped bring back the great soft trails here up at solitude. Classic and skate should be great today with the extra loops out to Silver lake being soft in spots. . Keep an eye out for vehicles on the trails. We had a UTV Monday Evening drive over all the trails and conditions yesterday were difficult. Help us Preserve our great trails up at Solitude by keeping good trail etiquette. Snow should be coming tomorrow and Friday to add to our snow from last night, so come on up to the Solitude Nordic Center for some great skiing!

Groomed this morning and set classic track. Conditions were a bit icy this morning, track may not be the prettiest of the year. We’ve lost some snow this week as things warmed up. But looks like fresh snow tonight will help out! Have fun, be safe.
