White Pine

The stoke is high and the tide is low. Another Joyful Spring day in the mountains.

Cold overnight means the track should stay pretty nice today. Firm early softening by late morning. The 3 km “Community Trail” is open and skiing very well. The 5 km “Pond Loop” is closed. It has some gaps and is discontinuous but offers wonderful ski, walk on the grass and ski again options. Definitely multiport again today. We will be resurfacing the snow today. We are trying to keep as much depth as possible. Red wax is the wax of the day. Skiing be best today until about 1:00 when temperatures will be well above 40 degrees F.

Surfaces are not deep at all, so ski with care and caution. If you skate, ride a flat ski and if you are cutting deep, please switch to classic so we can preserve the snow for the continuing warm days. If it’s possible, please stay off the trails late in the day if they are softening significantly. If you must go out, please classic skiing only in the afternoon. We are in snow saving mode.
Think snow! Hours 9am to 5pm daily.
You must have a trail pass purchased and displayed to access our trails. Everyone ski safe, fill with the Joy of gliding smoothly on the trail and enjoy another beautiful day!

There are a few shovels and scoops on the 3km trail. Enjoy some cross training and toss a couple of scoops of snow on to the trail thin spots. You’ll be stronger, get great feeling of being part of our wonderful ski community and also help the track last longer. Even a few scoops will fill your heart and your trail with seasonal Joy.

Fairview

I doubt anyone will read this but 1) faithful groomer has returned from Nordic Ski festival at Grand mesa and 2) Fairview has retained a surprising percentage of pre-Thanksgiving snowfall. Track was groomed with the Tidd Tech early this morning and it looks encouraging for skating (no classic track set). There are a few dicey spots but I think they are easily navigated and there will be long stretches where a skier can drill and it should be possible to ski all four miles with a few places to tap dance around. I will ski it today and use “rock skis.” Pray for snow. A few more inches with cold temperatures will be a game changer out there.

Fresh new distance added to the impeccable manmade snow track this morning. We have just about a full kilometer making for nearly 2k laps with grooming for skate and classic suitable for your nicest skis. Midmorning should be nicest but the dense manmade snow skis great all the way to lunchtime. Early season hours of 830-1230 today for season passholders. Public opening with rentals and day tickets is December 13. More detailed conditions can be found here: https://utaholympiclegacy.org/grooming-report-ski-conditions/

Skiing be best today until about 12:00 when temperatures will be well above 40 degrees F. Surfaces are not deep at all, so ski with care and caution. Hi Spruces fans, welcome to another great year of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing! We will have some great new groomers from the Forest Service this year and will be grooming our usual routes. This morning, we groomed and set classic around the Upper Loops with the Ginzugroomer. We only rolled the Lower Loops, as they are still very thin. There is pavement showing on the north side of Nursery Meadows. We sled packed Jordan Pines, but were not able to take the groomer over. There are dirt and rocks showing on the trail to Jordan. Please be careful as it is pretty thin anywhere you ski. Have fun!

Back to waiting for snow. Several people got out on the thin corduroy over the past week, but now that is so intermittent as to not be worth the trouble of heading out. The recrystallized powder off the edge of the track was fun on fishscale skis on Monday, December 2, but even that will be fleeting. It is early, there will be more.

The 2.75 km “Community Trail” and the 5.2 km “Pond Loop” are open. We will not be resurfacing the snow today. We are trying to keep as much depth as possible. The 5km loop now has some gaps in it so it is not continuous. Not as cold overnight means spring-like conditions early today. Firm surface early and softening quickly later in the day. Red wax is the best bet all day. Mid-day skiing will be best today until about 1:00 when temperatures will be well above 45 degrees F.

Open for season passholders in the mornings from 830-1230! You can buy a season pass online or just by showing up. We have impeccable conditions on thick manmade snow suitable for the full ski quiver but it will feel like a track and field workout as there is only a short segment less then 1k available. Piles of blown snow are multiplying so the distance will extend soon.

The 2.75 km “Community Trail” and the 5.2 km “Pond Loop” are open. There isn’t a lot of sugar on the trails, but we’re making the best lemonade we can with the week’s weather lemons. Taking advantage of the morning frost by letting it sit on the trail.

Cold overnight means spring-like conditions. Hard packed early and softening significantly later in the day. Blue wax early on the firm surface. Red wax is the best bet later in the day. Mid-day skiing be best today until about 1:00 when temperatures will be well above 40 degrees F. Surfaces are not deep at all, so ski with care and caution.
