Spruces

Cold temps and sunny skies today at Spruces. We were able to get out and groom the upper and lower loops, and Jordan Pines. For our classic track skiers – we are having some equipment issues and haven’t been able to get classic track set. We apologize for the inconvenience. In the meantime, enjoy some cold, fast, groomed snow.

Fresh grooming on New Sensation, Cabin Fever, and the Lake. All other trails are still in good shape. 7° at 8am, high of 18° and windy today.
The snowcat is parked on the trail due to a minor mechanical issue, so if you’ve ever wanted to see one up close, today’s your chance!

White Pine

It is going to be a cold but beautiful bluebird day! Cold snow and sunshine make a great combination. Enjoy that steamy mug before you head out with your boot covers, best mittens, warm beanie and buff. We might make it close to 22F degrees by afternoon under a bright blue sky. The wind blew hard for hours on the Farm last night so we’ll be focussing the snowcat on the 3km, 5km and Armstrong trails first. The Farm will be groomed late today and will be back in action for tomorrow after we rearrange the drifts.

About 11km of cold firm classic track and resurfaced corduroy this morning to start the day. You’ll glide best with green or blue wax and iron-in cold powder again today. Grip wax will be green or even that rarely used tin of Polar (!) wax. The dog loop is open and running happily through the field (cover up those paws again today). The Farm is a fee area for skiing. No walking, dogs, running, cycling or trespassing on the trails. Park in the new Meadows Drive trailhead lot or better yet, ski the entire loop from the Nordic Center. Classic skiing will be very good today and skate will be squeaky slow to start, and quite good as the day goes on. A good universal liquid or paste wax on your fish scale classic skis (tip to tail) is always a good idea. Skin skis are an exceptional no-fuss classic option if green hard wax isn’t your vibe.

Bring your family, friends, new friends and neighbors along to play and if you need to take a mid-day “physical and/or mental therapy” break we’ve got a trail for you. Drop off your skis when you’re finished for a refreshing overnight spa treatment. Please purchase AND display your trail pass to access our trails. Ski with bundled up Joy, share the trail, glide smoothly over the landscape and take a few nice laps of our beautiful trails! Thank you for being part of our amazing community and supporting long-winded seasonal prose. Grab that beanie, your buff, boot covers, your good gloves and head outside to enjoy the day!

Please be aware that the Wasatch Citizens Series race at Mountain Dell Saturday will be a skate individual start race rather than the planned classic technique race. Same time, same venue, different technique due to snow depth. Register by Thursday night on this very website.

Mountain Dell

Last night we groomed Main, Mitten, Lollipop, and Boomerang for both skate and classic. Snow coverage is good due to a lot of volunteer shoveling, but the classic track did not set up as well as we would have liked.

The Mountain Dell track will be CLOSED TO ALL SKIERS starting at 6 P.M. on Friday, January 24, to allow for race course prep. TUNA will be hosting the Wasatch Citizens Series 10K Skate race Saturday morning, January 25. Join in on this fun race! The course will re-open for general skiing starting around noon on Saturday. Thank you.

It is another rosy-cheeked Winter morning. Enjoy that steamy mug and a good breakfast before you head out with your boot covers, best mittens, warm beanie and buff. -5 degrees F on the trail at 7am. We might make it up close to 20F degrees by afternoon under a bright blue sky. 22km of cold firm classic track and lightly resurfaced corduroy this morning. You’ll glide best with green or blue wax and iron-in cold powder today. Grip will be green or even that rarely used tin of Polar (!) wax. Skate and classic on the 5k, 3k, Dog Loop and the Farm. We’ll be resurfacing the 3km skate and Armstrong this morning. Everything is in great shape overnight so we’re going to let it ride in the cold temps . The dog loop is open and running happily through the field (cover up those paws again today). The Farm is open and groomed. The Farm is a fee area for skiing. No walking, dogs, running, cycling or trespassing on the trails. Park in the new Meadows Drive trailhead lot or better yet, ski the entire loop from the Nordic Center. Ski with caution on the Farm.

If you enjoy what we’re providing, be sure to tell your local city officials how great it is to have such an incredible long-term community partnership between PC and White Pine Touring. We’ve been making trails on the golf course and beyond for 47 years. We’d like that to continue and your support helps.

Mountain Dell

Good frigid morning Utah Nordic enthusiasts. It is going to be a green wax kind of day at Mountain Dell today. Temperature is currently sitting at 0F at 7:00 am this morning and went as low as -2F overnight. Bundle up! Last night we groomed Main, Mitten, Lollipop, Boomerang and Park By-Pass Road with a new skate deck. The existing classic from previous shift looked good in most places and there was no way with no moisture in the snow that we were going to get better results with an attempted reset. The classic was left as is.  Despite the cold temperatures, it should be a beautiful day to come get your slide on at the Mountain Dell. Enjoy!

The Mountain Dell track will be CLOSED TO ALL SKIERS starting at 6 P.M. on Friday, January 24, to allow for race course prep. We will be hosting the Wasatch Citizens Series 10K Skate race Saturday morning, January 25. Join in on this fun race! The course will re-open for general skiing starting around noon on Saturday. Fairview

Today Wally Chambers and I “bridged the gap” in a few spots in order to keep the track continuous where we had lost some snow. With cold weather, those spots should hold up well. Otherwise, the skate lane was groomed today and looks good to great. The Classic track is what it is: degraded in some stretches on the lower loop but holding up well and offering some great skiing on north-south running stretches. Overall, Fairview is skiing well given the dry spell we are in.
