White Pine

It is a rosy-cheeked Winter morning. Have a mindful Martin Luther King Day.

Enjoy that second steamy mug before you head out with your boot covers, best mittens, warm beanie and buff. we were at 0 degrees F at 7am. We might make it up to 12 degrees by afternoon under a bright blue sky. Todd and Kurt groomed late last night to get the very best surface this morning. 22km of cold firm classic track and corduroy this morning was the result. You’ll glide best with green or blue wax and iron-in cold powder today. Grip will be green or a thin layer of blue wax. Fresh skate and classic on the 5k, 3k, Dog Loop and the Farm. More zen garden corduroy with a 100 percent chance of great skiing. The dog loop is open and running excitedly through the field (cover up those paws today).

The Farm is open and groomed. The Farm is a fee area for skiing. No walking, dogs, running, cycling or trespassing on the trails. Park in the new Meadows Drive trailhead lot or better yet, ski the entire loop from the Nordic Center. Our new snowcat has been prowling the trails. Ski with caution on the Farm. Classic skiing will be so very good today and skate will be slow to start, and quite good as the day goes on. A good universal liquid or paste wax on your fish scale classic skis (tip to tail) is always helpful. Skin skis are an exceptional no-fuss classic option if green hard wax isn’t your game.

Bring your partners, friends and neighbors along to play and if you need to take a mid-day “physical and/or mental therapy” break we’ll write you a note. Drop off your skis when you’re finished for an overnight spa treatment. Please purchase AND display your trail pass to access our trails. Ski with great Joy, share the trail, glide into the curves and take a few laps on our beaded string of beautiful trails! Thank you for being part of our amazing community and supporting long-form trail prose. Now grab that beanie, your buff, boot covers, your good gloves and head outside to enjoy the day!

A special thank you to Prinoth for delivering a shiny new Husky Snowcat for us to use this winter. If you enjoy what we’re providing, be sure to tell your local city officials how great it is to have such an incredible long-term community partnership between PC and White Pine Touring. We’ve been making trails on the golf course and beyond for 47 years. We’d like that to continue and letting Park City elected officials know of your support might be a good thing.

Rhys and I groomed Mountain Dell tonight at 5pm and got done around 7:30pm. Main, Mitten, Boomerang, Lollie, and Parkway were all groomed for skate and Classic. The track is in good shape. It is thin on the stem of Lollie pop, the part that splits off from the main to the Lollie top, so be careful.
Tomorrow should be cold, but the track should be nice.
Enjoy, Jerry

SR 65 (aka East Canyon Hwy) groomed this afternoon/evening for skate and classic to the top. Might be a little slow in the cold of Monday morning, but otherwise should be stellar.

Some fresh snow overnight into this morning. Packed and groomed all of the Spruces Upper and Lower Loops as well as Jordan Pines. Unfortunately one of the sleds is down and we cannot set the classic track right now. A little chilly here, but the sun is out and its a beautiful day in the canyon. Sushi Scale: Alaska Roll

A wintery morning for certain! Enjoy that steamy mug before you head out. Gently falling snow, a fresh breeze and freshly groomed trails is the forecast for the day. Cold overnight, you’ll glide best with blue wax today. There was a lot of drifting last night, and the snowcat is out with Scott at the controls making everything all pretty and corduroy. Fresh skate and classic on the 5k, 3k, Dog Loop and the Farm. Armstrong will be groomed later today, the curves are a little tight. Conditions can be described as zen garden corduroy with chance of slight drifting until the wind settles. The dog loop is open and running wildly through the field. The Farm is open and groomed for the weekend. There was a lot of drifting at the Farm overnight and the wind may continue for a while this morning. Plan on a little expedition skiing and bundle up if you’re out early.

The Farm is a fee area for skiing. No walking, dogs, running, cycling or trespassing on the trails. Park in the new Meadows trailhead lot or better yet, ski the entire loop from the Nordic Center. Soldier Hollow

Upcoming Events: We are hosting a Super Qualifier and other races Saturday and Sunday. Today is a Classic distance race with an interval start! Expect partial trail closures throughout the weekend and be considerate of the ski racers please.

Ski Trail Conditions: We have about 8 k of snowmaking ribbon that makes up in inner core trails. 90% of our trails are open now between the blown and natural snow. Some early season low snow hazards still exist, especially on the natural snow south slopes, so please ski with caution. We are blowing snow as much as we can with these cold temperatures, so be aware of that as well.

Weather and Conditions: It is currently 19 F and overcast this morning there is a 30% chance of some snow. The weather should clear up this afternoon and be sunny with a forecasted high of 24 F.
